In honor of Asian-American Pacific Heritage Month and the celebration of the 8th year of the Sister City relationship between the Village of Bartlett and Miaoli, Taiwan, Arts in Bartlett is hosting two special Taiwanese exhibits by artisit Jenny Chi in downtown Bartlett during May and June.
The artist is exhibiting paintings in the Arts in Bartlett gallery, 215 S. Main Street, and on Saturday, 5/19, starting at 6:30 p.m., Chi will be at Arts in Bartlett for a special cultural event. The evening will begin with a traditional Asian meal, including food from TL's Four Seasons Chinese-Japanese restaurant. This will be followed by a gallery talk by Chi about her "Classical Perception" exhibit and a musical performance by pianist Sean Yeh.
Yeh has performed all over the world and has garnered awards from several international competitions. At the age of 16, he made his orchestral debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals. He has a bachelor's and masters of music degrees from Julliard School and is currently a D.M.A. candidate in piano performance at Northwestern University. You can go to seanyeh.com/music for videos of his concerts. Artist Jenny Chi's daughter Noel, will also perform on the violin with Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major.
Chi is currently a professor in the art department at Eastern Illinois University, where she teaches courses in painting and life drawing. Inspired by the human figure, she paints in a style reminiscent of the old masters, conducting a personal, sometimes rather sly dialogue with the Italian Renaissance in particular.
Reservations for the dinner, gallery talk and concert are required. Tickets are $25 for one person, $40 for two. Go to the Ticket page of artsinbartlett.org to buy with a credit/debit card or come into Arts in Bartlett, 215 S. Main Street, to buy in person.
