Building permits are required for all residential construction and home improvement projects, regardless of whether the work is completed by the homeowner or a contractor.
Home Improvement Projects
Home improvement construction projects include, but are not limited to, additions, exterior repairs, demolitions, fences, swimming pools, driveways, sidewalks, patios, decks, sheds, central air conditioning, dog runs, dish antennas and electrical revisions. Second, fill out this building permit application (to be used for remodeling, repairs, build-outs and other miscellaneous projects.
Third, visit the Village's Building Department and bring with you your plat of survey (the map of your property you were given at the closing of escrow), building permit application (including the property index number, PIN), an estimated cost of the project, and a signed copy of the contract for the proposed work (if applicable). Pay appropriate permit fee.
Once these items are received and reviewed (usually within 48 hours) a verbal approval of the permit will be given.
