Village Board Finalizes Incentives for McKesson Medical-Surgical Inc.

Post Date:08/21/2019
Bartlett’s Village Board of Trustees has approved the final piece of an incentive package that will bring McKesson Medical-Surgical Inc. to the Brewster Creek Business Park.

A division of McKesson Corporation, which is currently ranked 7th on the Fortune 500, McKesson Medical-Surgical (MMS) is a distributor of medical supplies, durable medical equipment, surgical supplies and medical lab supplies. The 400,000 square foot building planned for a 26.3-acre site in the Brewster Creek Business Park will serve as a regional warehouse, distribution and office facility for the company. It is projected that MMS will employ 200 workers by 2024 at this distribution center, the majority of them full-time.

McKesson’s site selection process for this $40 million-plus project began in 2018. Bartlett became a finalist in the search earlier this year, at which time the Village Board and staff began discussing the scope of the project and the best incentive package to attract this global leader in healthcare supply chain management to the Village.

This will be the first industrial project in the Cook County portion of Brewster Creek Business Park, and in June, the Village approved Class 6B status for the facility along with variations and a special use permit. The Class 6B will reduce the property tax for MMS by lowering the county assessment for a 12-year period, saving the company approximately $1 million per year. However, the estimated $11 million in property taxes that will be collected during that same time would not have been received “but for” the Class 6B tax incentive.

Additional incentives, approved by the board at the August 20 meeting, include a waiver of the Village’s regular building permit fees; a $50,000 grant to be used to offset TIF-eligible development costs; and assistance with linking MMS to local workforce development groups.

Officials and staff are excited about the significant investment the company is making in the community, and they look forward to welcoming MMS to the Village and to Brewster Creek Business Park. The industrial park is home to more than 70 businesses and is well-known for its food-related and high-technology precision manufacturing companies.
